Introduction

New Deal Middle School has been here since 1935. It is considered one of the largest two AA schools in Texas. It has sports like football, basketball, and track. We asked the Middle School Principle a few questions about the school. His comments were that his plans for New Deal's future are, "To continue to improve New Deal Middle School, academicly, socially, and athletically." Along with improving we take the TAAS test once a year. Some of Mr. Montgomery's comments about our TAAS scores this year were, "They probably did really well and we will find out next week.' Mr. Montgomery's last words are,"Remember you only get out of things that you put into it.

Awards and Recognitions

7th grade girls district champs in track 2000. They worked very hard and really deserved the recognition (considering it was their first year in the track competitions).

For the 99'-'00 school year New Deal Middle School recieved a recognition for the most pop tabs.

The 8th grade girls were the Basketball champs for the 00'school year. They really worked hard and deserved the recognition.

The High School band went to Floydada for concert and sightreading for UIL competition. They recieved a 1 in concert and sightreading. All the judges gave the Band a 1, making it the only "Mini Sweepstakes" that the Band has recieved in many years.

The 5th,6th, & 7th grade bands participated in the Floydada Band Festival. They recieved an award for overall performance and attitude.

The 6th and 7th grade bands performed a concert at the Floydada Festival. They recieved a 1st division in every performance they entered, which included sightreading and concert.

TAAS

TAAS Benchmark is used to see how prepared students are for the actual TAAS Test. The TAAS Test is taken by all students in the state of Texas to get them prepared for the next grade. Our school did exceptionally well this year and now our school is recognized as an exemplarary school. The TAAS Test is taken in April. Grades 5th -7th take two portions of the TAAS Test which includes Reading and Math. However, the 8th graders are required to take 5 portions of the TAAS Test, which include Math, Reading, Writing, Science, and History. This is because they are getting ready for High School and need to be prepared.
